The idea for The Healing Nest came to life after volunteering at Gilda’s Club with my dear friend and mentor, Trisha Dezenski. Together, we recognized a need for a nurturing haven where women undergoing cancer treatment could receive free holistic services in a peaceful, supportive environment.
Shortly after founding The Healing Nest, my then eight-year-old son, Joey, began his own long and challenging journey with cancer. Walking alongside him through this experience deepened my compassion for those affected by this devastating disease and strengthened my commitment to educating others about health, nutrition, and the importance of choosing clean, safe products.
The Healing Nest has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life. I am surrounded by the most loving and compassionate volunteers, who generously share their time and talents to make our mission possible. The beautiful women who walk through our doors have touched my heart in countless ways, and many have become dear friends.
I am profoundly grateful to everyone who has helped bring The Healing Nest to life and continues to make our work possible. It is a privilege to be part of an organization that offers comfort, connection, and a little time for women to focus on themselves during such a difficult chapter of their lives.
“The Healing Nest has become one of the most meaningful parts of my life.”
I began volunteering with The Healing Nest in October 2014, and I am so grateful to be part of such a meaningful organization. I am married to a wonderful and caring man, and I am the proud Nana to three terrific grandchildren who are a very special part of our lives.
I am a caring and dedicated volunteer, and I look forward to each of our monthly service days. The women we serve are truly inspiring, and I often feel that I receive so much more from them than I could ever give.
I am deeply grateful to be part of The Healing Nest and to witness the comfort, kindness, and joy it brings to so many wonderful women. It is a privilege to be part of an organization that makes such a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
I am married and the proud mother of two sons and a daughter, and even prouder yet of my four beautiful granddaughters and my precious five-year-old grandson.
After thirty exciting years in Interior Design, I decided to retire, relax, and play golf. But after two weeks of being home, I thought, OK, now what? So I decided to go back into the design business on a part-time basis, which would still leave me plenty of time to golf.
Little did I know that Lisa would call me to see if I would help start up The Healing Nest with her. I said yes immediately! She opened her home, and I felt like my life had started all over again.
What a wonderful, rewarding feeling it is to help all these beautiful women who come to enjoy our service day. Seeing them relaxing, getting pampered and laughing is such joy. We all share the same dreams for the future of The Healing Nest. Looking forward to it all with love.
I am a semi-retired office manager who, after 37½ years, still enjoys editing court depositions and working at various corporate events. I have been married to my wonderful husband, James, for 48 years, and together we're proud parents of three grown children, grandparents to seven grandchildren, and great-grandparents to one great-granddaughter.
I love to travel and have been fortunate to explore many parts of the world. I’m also an avid exerciser and enjoy staying active in many different ways, including riding my bike. When I’m not traveling or exercising, you’ll often find me tending to my flower gardens or enjoying time in my she shed.
Giving back to my community is also very important to me. I am active in my church and community and am grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with The Healing Nest.
I feel very fortunate to have a busy, full, and happy life—and being part of The Healing Nest brings me great joy.
I live in Shelby Township. Along with my “sainted” husband Mike we have two amazing daughters (and wonderful sons-in-law), three beautiful and talented granddaughters (and two handsome grandsons-in-law). For forty years I worked in the area of special education.
In 2015 I learned about The Healing Nest from a neighbor who was going through cancer treatment and was a guest at The Healing Nest. At that time I started to assist Lisa by creating the schedule for the beautiful ladies to be pampered. Several of the ladies who have received pampering have been dear friends. This is a true mission to give these ladies a day to relax, enjoy the services and make lasting friendships with others who are fighting the same battle.
My name is Cathy Roach. I am a volunteer at the Healing Nest and a long-time friend of Tanya's for almost 25 years. When she invited me to volunteer here, I was thrilled to join. As a two-time breast cancer survivor (23 years) and a lymphoma survivor (6 years), having the opportunity to support other women facing similar challenges is truly a blessing. I am so grateful to work alongside the wonderful volunteers and guests here.
Outside of my work at the Healing Nest, I have been happily married to my caring husband for 39 years, and we have a wonderful son and daughter-in-law. Now that we are both retired, I look forward to doing more traveling, as well as enjoying golfing and biking.
